Instructions for Installing an OctagonWindow

Materials needed:
  • hammer
  • nails
  • silicone caulking
  • framing square
  • gloves
  • safety glasses

When installing the window unit, it is important that the installer read and understands all instructions before proceeding.

Warning! When installing an Accent venting octagon window the unit must be installed as an overhead awning window. The hinge must be on the top, not on bottom or side.

1. Frame opening to rough opening dimensions of unit, add corner braces so that the unit can be secure on all sides.

2. Working from the outside, place unit into center of rough opening. Check jamb for proper finishing depth. Add jamb extensions to frame if necessary.

3. Before nailing unit in wall, apply a bead of caulk behind nailing fin.

4. Nail into upper nailing fin to temporarily hold unit into rough opening. Center unit in opening and shim if necessary before proceeding.

5. Secure unit with nails in each section of nailing fin or through the interior extension jamb and into the wall studding.

6. We recomend you use insulation when installing our windows. Carefully pack any cracks or voids between the jambs and wall studs and support studs with Fiberglass Insulation.

7. If house has exterior siding, please keep the following in mind: Octagon unit comes with an integrated J-Channel. Integral J-Channel frames allow installation of the siding by "tucking" it inside the spave created by the J-Channel and the window frame.

8. Apply a bead of caulk around perimeter of brickmoulding or frame where it meets the siding.

9. Insulate around inside perimeter of unit frame gap, before installing interior trim. The miter cut angle for inside trim is 22.5°. Accent window interior trim is sold pre-mitred and cut to size or as one assembled piece.

Note: Building Codes
As there are many building codes in practice throughout North America, in addition to the many State-level and Provincial codes, directepurchase.com strongly urges users to refer to their local codes as to exterior window installations.  As with any vinyl or polyurethane window unit, directepurchase.com products are not designed to provide structural support unless advertised to do so.
